Hope all of you are doing fine at whatever space you are occupying on this planet. How is Work-From-Home after Corona scare treating you? By now, you might have settled in your quotidian balance of household chores and office work, or you might have started resisting the WFH scenario. The greater chances are, you might be hanging in somewhere in-between the love and hate curve. As for me, life was under lockdown way before the actual lockdown happened. I anyways work from home and battled the demons that come with the WFH set-up long time ago. The demons that you must be facing now. Conquering the perils of WFH don’t come easy and nor does that mean I have conquered them all. The struggle continues, but like they say, you keep getting better and better.
In case you are feeling teeny weeny unsettled in your new WFH phase, let me list a few positives of the WFH scenario in an After Corona (AC) world, something those working in Before Corona (BC) world never enjoyed.
- You are not alone. You are part of the WFH wave that has descended on the planet AC. This feeling in itself is a big relief compared to the vacuum of working from home alone when the world is marching out to work. We had to bear the burden of being the odd one out in the otherwise office-going world. We were a bunch of isolated people scattered across the globe. AC, no one is mocking/sneering at you for working from home. Your colleagues and bosses are also stuck with WFH and there is absolutely no reason to feel left out.
- You have your family as your company when you sit/work/sulk at home on your laptop. While you may be feeling an overdose of family proximity, believe me, sometimes there is nothing like having a company. Good or bad hardly matters. BC, we worked from home alone when our family was out for work and so does other people on earth.
- You have the luxury of knowledge and surety that no guests will be dropping by at your place while you have a work day. You don’t have to don a “good host” tag and make time for tea, snacks and conversations leading to late work hours. BC, we never enjoyed that freedom. We had to role-play both, a “good host” and a “professional” within the same space.
- You are the privileged ones who will not earn unwanted tags from people around you. You have been forced to WFH and are contributing in a big way in flattening the corona curve and the world health at large. We have been tagged as “home-sitters” who watch Tv the whole day and do nothing. As if the employers will pay us for that. Will your employer pay you for no output at all? Somehow, the world believed so. Hopefully, not anymore.
There is a lot to be grateful for in a work-from-home after corona world. And in case you are missing the excitement of getting ready and going to work, put on your best clothes and get ready to travel for work, from your bedroom to your work station. What? Did I hear sulking? Weren’t you the one who cribbed about long commuting hours and traffic jams?
